RF Hybrid Couplers, Multicouplers & Splitters

Precision Signal Management with COM-TECH MultiStep Technology

In high-power broadcast architectures, signal integrity is non-negotiable. Whether you are combining multiple transmitters or distributing RF energy to complex antenna arrays, the passive components you choose determine the efficiency of the entire chain.

MDL Communications provides COM-TECH’s complete range of Hybrid Couplers, Multicouplers, and Splitters. Featuring the innovative MultiStep design, these components offer ultra-broadband performance without the need for critical tuning, ensuring low insertion loss and high isolation across FM, VHF, and UHF bands.

The "MultiStep" Advantage

Traditional couplers often require precise, frequency-specific tuning to achieve acceptable VSWR and isolation. COM-TECH’s MultiStep Technology revolutionizes this by using a stepped-impedance design structure.

  • Ultra-Broadband: Operates across wide frequency ranges (e.g., full FM band 87.5–108 MHz or UHF) without manual retuning.
  • Stability: Eliminates the drift associated with tuned LC circuits.
  • High Power Handling: Engineered with robust aluminum bodies and PTFE insulators to handle high RF power levels reliably.

Product Categories

1. Hybrid Couplers (3dB / 90°)

COM-TECH Hybrid Couplers are the industry standard for combining two transmitters or creating balanced power splits. These 3dB, 90-degree quadrature hybrids are essential building blocks for Double Bridge Combiners and variable power splitters.

  • Key Application: Combining two transmitters of equal power into a single output, or splitting one transmitter to feed two antenna systems with a 90° phase shift.
  • Specs: Available in connector sizes from 7/16 DIN up to 3-1/8" EIA, handling power levels up to 19kW+.
  • Isolation: Typical channel isolation >28 dB, protecting your transmitters from reverse power.

2. Multicouplers (Signal Distribution)

When you need to distribute RF signals to multiple destinations—such as monitoring ports, exciter feeds, or receiver arrays—COM-TECH Multicouplers provide a compact, low-loss solution.

  • Configurations: Available in starpoint or manifold configurations depending on the number of ports required.
  • Impedance: Strictly matched 50-ohm characteristic impedance to maintain system VSWR.

3. RF Splitters & Dividers

For antenna array feed systems, COM-TECH Power Splitters ensure that RF energy is divided accurately to maintain the correct pattern and gain.

  • Precision Splitting: Equal or unequal power division options available.
  • Rugged Design: Built to withstand the environmental conditions of transmitter sites.
